Dr. Kyle Adam Blair is a pianist, vocal coach, and music director who has resided in the San Diego area since 2011. Kyle’s major musical passions can be reduced down to two main themes: playing the piano and working with singers!
He is equally fascinated with opera, artsong, and musical theatre repertoire, and has worked extensively in all three arenas. During his time at UC San Diego Kyle was a mainstay in the Department of Theatre and Dance; music directing, coaching singers, and composing and arranging music for premieres of new plays by graduate student playwrights and faculty members alike. In the Music department, Kyle acted as the vocal coach for the preparation of two operatic premieres over the last three years, and also music directed a large production of Berthold Brecht and Kurt Weill’s The Threepenny Opera along with the kallisti ensemble in 2015. Kyle has also accompanied hundreds of singers in recitals across the country and in the San Diego area, specialized in 20th and 21st century American music styles.
Kyle has acted as a music director for JCompany since 2017, working with the casts of Les Miserábles, Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Newsies, Jr.
Kyle received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Contemporary Music Performance from the University of California, San Diego in June 2018.
