Marc Chagall – The Most Important 20th Century Jewish Artist

In this lecture Stark will discuss Mark Chagall, the world’s preeminent Jewish artist, a master of dreams and storytelling. Chagall’s unique expressive and poetic paintings will be discussed with their images of childhood memories, floating people, flying goats, brides and grooms and fiddlers on the roof. We’ll look at Chagall's paintings, stained glass windows, tapestries and mosaics. What motivated Chagall? What and who influenced him? What sets his art apart from others? How does his art relate to other artistic movements of the 19th and 20th centuries? All this will be part of the presentation.
