Remarkable Jewish Women of San Diego

Dr. Harris’ research in the archives of the Jewish Historical Society at SDSU revealed the largely untold stories of several women who made significant contributions to Jewish life in San Diego from the 1800s to the present. They include Rose Neumann who published the first Jewish newspaper in San Diego and Deborah Szekely, widely the considered the “Godmother of the wellness movement.”

Dr. Harris has devoted over 30 years to studying and documenting women’s experiences, and teaching and empowering women in the workplace locally and nationally. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Washington. In her career, she became a trailblazer and expert in the fields of sex discrimination and sexual harassment. In 2010, Dr. Harris was inducted into the San Diego Women’s Hall of Fame.
