Join us to learn about two Israeli artists who were the pioneers of a new, distinctive "Eretz Israel" art style in the days prior to the foundation of Israel. Nachum Gutman and Reuven Rubin developed a unique style that was influenced by their personal experience of building a new life in Israel. In their modern and naive style, they portrayed Israel's landscapes (Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem, Zefat, Galillee) and inhabitants (Yemenite & Hassidic, Jews & Arabs) in a sensitive fashion. We will look at their paintings, mosaics, tapestries and books, and will discuss these artists' motivations and influences and how they influenced Israel's art world.
